Camouflage baseball cap from the 99p store, Peckham

PECKHAM’S 99p STORE is quite literally a cavern of under-the-radar style. Taken out of context the camouflage print on this hat becomes more decorative; a buttoned-up shirt is essential. With branches all over the country and an ever-changing selection of stock, it’s worth a nose. Other recents include a pair of round sunglasses, green shorts and natty hiking socks.

A Minute Silence woven lanyard

A NICE NEW LABEL, started by Lynn Cockburn (the needles behind Carolyn Massey’s knitwear and eye-catching accessories) and artist Danny Sangra, this lanyard is typical of their candy-bright, confident aesthetic. Lanyards feel like an under-explored opportunity in menswear- sport one as a necklace, wallet chain, bracelet, over a scarf, through a belt loop… when trinkets are as awesome as this, MENSWEAR will find any opportunity to wear them.

Mr. Hare spring 10 Sir Coxsone suede bucks

OH, MR. HARE. These suede bucks have been designed with a sturdier, layered wooden sole and the beautiful construction you’d expect from this master of shoes. What takes them to the next level is the shape- so well thought out, so smart but with a casual, rounded, ever-so-slightly lifted toe. The masterstroke comes with caramel-coloured laces and a soft white patch of leather on the heel. Envision it; these are shoes that would look right with Savile Row trousers and a suit jacket or something totally in the other direction, something light and modern from the likes of Giuliano Fujiwara or Raf Simons. I’m saving for my next pair, like, 15 minutes ago.

A snapshot of Spring 11: silence, strength, symmetry.

Mr. Hare is a big inspiration at the moment- not only are his shoes quite the most covetable thing on the planet, but his blog also cuts away at most of the flim-flam of blogging (overlong introductions like this) to get to the heart of the matter.

Following his recent wish-list (or inspiration list) for Spring 11, MENSWEAR has come up with our own collage of the finest, the sexiest… the simplest… the most BOOTilicious…

We’re getting aroused by camel jackets, black socks, patterned shirts, belted waists, belted cardigans, sandals, sleeves, trenches, belts with that annoying unnamed down-pointy end, leather patches, double-layered shorts, tees, cropped knits… can you guess which is by whom?

Wanna dress like this: vintage Versace in HERO magazine

I’m sure this has been all over the interweb recently, but those lovely folks at HERO zine sent me this shoot a while back and I’ve been thinking about it a lot recently. This beautifully-styled shoot makes me want to ditch the black/textured look I’ve been doing recently and wholeheartedly embrace the joie-de-vivre of those vintage Versace prints.

Styled by the very talented Ingo Nahrwold, shot by Stefan Heinrichs- check out the website at www.hero-zine.com
